That's actually great advice to train your observation. When I was in High School, we had figure drawing drills every day- sketching other members of the class in one position for 2 minutes, then 5 minutes, then 10 minutes, then we moved on to longer poses- That was great for getting us warmed up- and wee did that in ballpoint, so that we'd make predetermined decisions of where we would put our pens down and avoid noodling.
